The author recalls the history and operation of London's first generation tramway network. Supplementing the author's pertinent text are some 175 mono illustrations that portray the trams and the operations. With bias towards the last years of the network, in the period after the end of World War 2 when the system was battling to overcome the exigencies of the wartime era and then the period of abandonment, this book highlights the important role of the tramway in providing public transport in a period of austerity.
