The second of a series of five film programmes containing archive footage and tracing the story of steam locomotives during the middle years of the 20th century. This presentation looks at the years that brought the Depression with a period of austerity for the railways as well as a time of construction of new locomotive types. Familiar and not-so-familiar locations are visited around Britain to bring together a rich collection of images from the age of steam.
