In celebration of the Cup Final and World Cup
London Transport played a vital role in advertising London's sporting calendar and for many years leading artists took pride in designing posters for sporting events such as the Cup Finals.
In 1923, when the first FA Cup Final was played at Wembley Stadium, The Underground started to issue posters to promote the annual event. Some of the most vibrant and iconic Cup Final posters were designed during the 1920s and 1930s.
Even now, with the 2010 Cup Final imminent and the World Cup commencing in June, we can still look to the imagery created and feel a sense of pride, excitement and anticipation.
We have selected 8 of our favourite Cup Final posters from the 20s and 30s and used them as inspiration for our football product range: Celebrating the Cup Final and World Cup.
