Artist Biography:
Anna Zinkeisen was a portrait painter and muralist. Moving from Scotland when she was eight, she grew up in the London suburb of Harrow. At the Royal Academy Schools she studied painting under Sir George Clausen, Glyn Philpot, and Charles Sims. She went on to design ceramics for Wedgwood, as well as many book covers and illustrations. Zinkeisen was commissioned to produce a mural for the ballroom of the Queen Mary liner in 1934, entitled ‘The Four Seasons’. During the Second World War she was a volunteer with St John’s Ambulance Brigade. She produced a number of paintings of people attending her first aid post. Her sister, Doris, was also an artist.
