The Underground Map by Harry Beck, 1933

Harry Beck is best known for designing the diagrammatic map of London's Underground system. He proposed the design in 1931 whilst working as a draughtsman for the Underground. In 1933, after the formation of the London Transport, Frank Pick gave the design a trial printing. The diagrammatic representation, which proved to be popular and easily understood by Underground passengers, has been used ever since. Beck also designed a number of posters for the Underground Group in the early 1930s.

Harry Beck (also known by the name Henry Charles Beck), born 1902 in Leyton, London, died 1974. Designed posters for the Underground Group 1931-1933.
