A study of six miles of geometric tile patterns on the London Underground.

London has been the home of the largest, most extensive decorative tiling project ever undertaken in Britain. The tiling of over ninety tube platforms and associated passage ways, staircases and surface-level booking halls, probably amounted to the largest single creation of decorative art on public display - and probably the longest and thinnest art gallery anywhere.

This book examines the conditions in early twentieth century London and shows that they were ideal for the inception of genuinely innovative graphic explosion of design and colour - one that arguably helped make London's Underground system the most famous in the world.

This special edition book consists of two volumes, volume one is a comprehensive book about each station's unique tiles and their history. Voume two comprises of four posters of station platforms illustrating the tiled interiors of the station.
