Within a month of the entry into service of RT1, Britain was at war with Germany. Shortages of materials and manpower during the conflict that developed meant that the London Transport Passenger Board's(LPTB) design standards had to be sacrificed to the constraints of utility. Between 1942 and 1946 when the LPTB would otherwise have been placing large numbers of its RTs in service, an odd assortment of new bodywork was to be seen instead. This book tells the story of the 756 buses that made up the fleet of London's utility buses.
