In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Underground, TfL has collaborated with designjunction and Outline Editions to select ten UK-based designers to create centennial designs for specially commissioned limited edition Oyster card holders.
Each Oyster card holder will have the Underground map printed on the inside as a handy navigational tool.
Single holders cost £6.99 and a set of ten costs £55.
The designers selected include: Pearson Lloyd, StudioSmall, James Joyce, Kate Moross, Andreas Neophytou, Noma Bar, BCMH, Kristjana S Williams, Andrew Rae and Mina Lima.
East London based BCMH produce an abundance of graphic design for books, websites, signage, publications, branding and exhibition design.
The design: As well as celebrating 150 years of the London Underground, 2013 also marks the anniversary of its iconic typeface by British calligrapher Edward Johnston. Tasked to create a typeface with ‘bold simplicity’ that was modern yet rooted in tradition, New Johnston is its modern-day variant that is as symbolic of the London Underground as the map itself.
