London Transport ordered 14 AEC Reliance coaches with Willowbrook bus bodies (with coach seats) which entered service in 1965. Although the combination was very successful in Provincial service, the numerous modifications specified by London Transport (LT) rendered this experimental class (RC type) temperamental in service. The opportunity was also taken with these coaches to experiment with the livery, but the new colours did not find favour, and were not to be applied to any others in London Transport's fleet.
