1879 was the highest numbered vehicle at Hanwell depot, which also had the highest trolleybus allocation on the system – 75 trolleybuses in 1952. Here it is operating on the 607 route to Uxbridge (the most westerly terminus on the London system) from Shepherds Bush which ran at one minute intervals at peak times.
Fleet number 1879 was one of the second batch of Q1s delivered in 1952. From January 1953, a number of Q1s were allocated to the 607 with a final total of 20 being garaged at Hanwell. 1879 shows a depot working to Hanwell Broadway, the garage address.
Interestingly, route 607 passed within a stone’s throw of the AEC works at Southall where a trolleybus test track existed.
