Founded in 1868, the All England Lawn Tennis Club is nearly as old as London’s Underground which celebrates its 150th birthday this year.
The world famous Tennis Championships which are played at the complex near Southfields in South West London draw hundreds of thousands of visitors each year most of which arrive by Underground at nearby Southfields station.
In the heyday of poster design in the 1920’s and 1930s, great artists and designers were used to create wonderful posters encouraging tennis fans to travel by Underground. These posters are much loved and highly collectable (most are available to view and buy online).
In London Underground’s 150th year, a new poster classic has been created by Jon Hunter, Transport for London’s Head of Design to promote the integrated transport systems that serve Wimbledon 2013. The design features coloured tennis balls featuring the colours of London Underground lines, London Overground, DLR and London buses.
The poster measures 25inches x 40inches
