A collectors poster to commemorate the end of the A stock.
About This Item

Double Royal poster to commemorate the end of the Metropolitan Line A stock.

Dimensions: 25 inches x 40 inches

About the Illustration: At the time the Metropolitan line A Stock train was introduced in 1960, London Transport did not commission an illustration of its new fleet.

50 years later, and with the demise of the A Stock from public service, London Transport Museum commissioned two illustrations to redress the omission.

The Metropolitan line serves outer north west London suburbs as well as the more distant towns of Amersham and Chesham in Buckinghamshire, and the trains were designed with these longer journeys in mind with higher speed capability, high back seats and luggage racks (which London Transport Museum are now selling).

The Day illustration depicts a Metropolitan line A stock train in its original unpainted aluminium livery passing through the Buckinghamshire countryside against a backdrop of the setting sun, alluding to the sunset of this iconic train as its final days in service approach.

Lovely well thought out retro style poster, celebrating this iconic stock. Only complaint is that it is a non standard size for an off the shelf picture frame. Will need to go to a picture framers to get one specially made, thus expensive, ouch. Ikea, The Range and Wilko's etc. don't stock anything with the right dimensions. Any ideas?
