One of many posters produced to advertise London Zoo, designed by Dorothy Burroughs in 1922, on behalf of the Underground Electric Railways Company Ltd. The poster which features one of the most popular animals in the zoo was published to encourage Londoners to visit the zoo. Dorothy Burroughes studied at the Slade School and later at Heatherley’ School of Fine Art and specialised in animal subjects. After studying she became a poster designer, designing posters for the Underground Group for two years from 1920. Burroughes also became and a writer and illustrator of books and magazines, which included the Bystander and the London News. Her work is held at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
