These limited edition high quality prints exactly replicate British European Airways (BEA) destination blinds on a fleet of coaches which at one time operated from BEA’s West London Air Terminal in Cromwell Road directly to the steps of the relevant aircraft at London Heathrow Airport. The destinations featured were the extent of BEA’s European route network.
The unusual font and distinctive white on bright red printIng make these accurately reproduced prints hugely attractive for the seasoned European traveller.
Introduced in 1953, the coaches were designed, maintained and operated by London Transport from a garage in Stamford Brook in West London but were owned by BEA and were unusual in having a raised half deck at the rear in order to provide ample luggage space beneath. From 1966, these coaches were replaced by a larger fleet of double deck Routemaster coaches which towed a luggage trailer and in due course these were made redundant by the changing nature of air travel with all passenger check in taking place at airport terminals.
