A poster designed by Charles Paine in 1921 for the Underground Electric Railways Company Ltd., to advertise visits to Hampton Court by travelling on the Underground. The Underground and later London Transport used pictorial posters to promote sightseeing in the capital. These posters encouraged Londoners and visitors to explore the city by using public transport, in this case the well-known Tudor landmark Hampton Court.
Charles Paine studied at Salford College of Art and the Royal College of Art, going on to teach at Edinburgh College of Art. His poster designs for London Transport were mainly the result of his association with the Baynard Press, for whom he produced posters and other graphic designs for a large range of companies.
