Epsom Summer Meeting was designed by Andrew Power in 1933 for London Transport. This bold poster perfectly captures the intensity and movement at Epsom racecourse, pulling the viewers eye across and upwards on the poster to the upper left text, ‘For the Derby Morden Station, thence by bus every minute.’
Sybil Andrews, who worked under the penname, Andrew Power was born in 1898 in Bury St. Edmunds, England. Power’s art training began on John Hassall’s Correspondence Course in 1918 before she attended Heatherley’s School of Fine Art and the New Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London. Power’s style is described as avant-garde and futurist. All posters from Andrew Power for London Transport date to the 1930's.
In the late 1930’s Andrews emigrated to British Columbia, Canada where she painted and taught until her death in 1992.
