Golders Green was published in 1908 by an unknown artist for the Underground Electric Railway Company. The poster was the first to be produced to encourage house-buyers to live in the new developments on the fringes of London. The upbeat colourful summer picture promoted family life in Golders Green, with the prospect of using the improved transport links to commute to work in the City. Work started on the new Underground railway from Charing Cross to Hampstead in1903. At this time Golders Green was only a country crossroad but it quickly became the centre of a new community. Golders Green grew rapidly to become an area of Arts & Crafts-style houses with avenues and shops.
