Visit the Empire by Ernest Michael Dinkel was designed in 1933 and features the text: ‘The wealth, romance and beauty of the empire’ across the top. The countries featured in the inner map, framing it like a wreath are; Canada, New Zealans, Jamaica, St. Guiana, West Indies, Pacific Isles and Newfoundland. Atop the map sits the exotic wildlife to be found within these countries, while the London Underground hugs the bottom. Ernest Michael Dinkel was born in Huddersfield, England in 1894. His studies in art include a local technical college and then the Royal College of Art between 1921-1925. Dinkel taught at the Royal College of Art from 1925 until 1940. Dinkel then became head of Stourbridge School of Art and then head of the School of Design at Edinburgh College of Art between 1947-1961. He designed posters for the Underground Group between 1931-1933. Ernest Michael Dinkel died in 1983.
