A stylish illustrated Santa, wearing a white fur trimmed red jacket and a triangular hat encouraging passengers to travel by Underground to the shops to purchase Christmas gifts. This poster was designed by F Gregory Brown in 1921 for the Underground Electric Railway Company. F Gregory Brown designed posters for the Underground Group and London Transport between 1914 and 1940. In 1903 F Gregory Brown began his career as an art metalworker, but soon turned to magazine illustration. He was a founder member of the Design and Industries Association in 1915, and designed posters for the Empire Marketing Board, MacFisheries, ICI and the four main railway companies. In 1925 he won a gold medal at the 1925 Paris Exhibition of Decorative Arts for textile design.
