Reg Cartwright was born in Leicester in 1938 and has been a full-time painter and illustrator since 1974. Reg's paintings are essentially simple but with a complex structure of semi-abstraction, tone and colour. Reg has illustrated over 30 books and was included in the 'Original Show' at the Museum of 20th Century Illustrators in New York. He began exhibiting in 1972, principally in London. Since then, in addition to exhibitions in other London galleries, there have been shows in many parts of the country.
The 'Simply' series of posters were commissioned by London Transport for their principal marketing campaigns between 1995 and 2000. The campaigns were instigated by Geoff Ellerton, Director of Marketing for London Transport at that time, and his Head of Advertising and Publicity, Charlie Edelman. Every commission was used for posters, leaflets, and various other marketing activities and many of the images used were highly popular with the travelling public. Shortly after the formation of Transport for London, the 'Simply' campaign ended.
