Hans Unger was born in Germany where he studied poster design in the studio of Jupp Wiertz in Berlin from 1934 to 1935. He then emigrated to South Africa to work as a freelance commercial designer in Cape Town. He moved to London in 1948 where he was a successful poster designer.
