Lesley Saddington lives and works in London as an artist and illustrator. Her preferred medium is collage. The careful construction of shape, texture and colour lends her work a decorative quality. Saddington cites the set and costume design of theatre, in particular the Ballet Russes, as a key influence on her work. She also refers to Marc Chagall, stating: 'I like to have a feeling of movement and flow in my work, which is why I love the flying figures in Chagall's paintings.
The 'Simply' series of posters were commissioned by London Transport for their principal marketing campaigns between 1995 and 2000 . The campaigns were instigated by the then Director of Marketing for London Transport, Geoff Ellerton, and his Head of Advertising and Publicity, Charlie Edelman. Every commission was used for posters, leaflets, and various other marketing activities and many of the images used were highly popular with the travelling public. Shortly after the formation of Transport for London, the 'Simply' campaign terminated.
