An attractive country summer scene in greens and pale orange, of Chingford Mount with the church in the background. This poster was designed in 1913, by Walter E Spradbury, for the Underground Electric Railway Company Ltd. The poster advertised the bus route to Chingford Mount – the number 35. Such posters promoted visiting these outer areas in off peak times and encouraged Londoners to move further out to live in outlying areas of the city.
Walter E. Spradbery was born in 1889 in East Dulwich, London and died in 1969. He trained at Walthamstow Art School and his poster designs were primarily produced for London Transport, but he also completed work for British Rail and the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER).
