Back when stations were being constructed, the inner platforms were decorated with glazed tiles for a durable high quality finish. Each station was given its own identity by using a broad unifying colour scheme. Directional signs were intergrated into the tiled friezeswith their shape echoing the outline of the ticket windows in the booking halls above.
