This spring time poster of Epping Forest in pale spring green colours was produced by the Underground Electric Railways Company Ltd. in 1920. The purpose of the poster was to encourage leisure travel to the areas now known as Greater London during off-peak times. Such posters were prominently displayed at station entrances and on the trains themselves.
The artist was Edward McKnight Kauffer who was born in Montana, USA in 1890. He studied art in San Francisco and Paris before travelling to London in 1914. In 1915 he was commissioned by Frank Pick to design his first poster and following on from this London Underground became his most important client.
