An attractive Christmas scene of Christmas trees, Santa on his sleigh and families, in warm winter colours. This poster was produced in 1925, by Richard T Cooper for the Underground Electric Railway Company Ltd., depicting the spirit of Christmas. A popular poster this image has been used on many occasions for commercial use, for example on Christmas Cards. Richard Cooper was born in 1884 and died in 1957. He was educated at Tonbridge School in Kent and went on to study art in Paris. In the First World War he was an infantryman and an official war artist for the Graphic. He worked on camouflage with Solomon J Solomon for which he was awarded an MBE. Post war he became a poster artist and worked for the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley in 1924, the Empire Marketing Board, Gilbey’s, Union Castle (Shipping) Line and Royal Mail (Shipping) Line. Cooper had a particular interest in costume and uniforms and his posters were particularly noted for their historical detail.
