Wimbledon Tennis
The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is a private club founded in 1868, originally as "The All England Croquet Club". Its first ground was at Nursery Road off Worple Road, Wimbledon, moving to its present site (in nearby Southfields) in 1922. London Transport promoted the Wimbledon Tennis tournament most years between the First and Second World Wars and London Transport Museum houses a fine variety of old Wimbledon Tennis posters. In 2013, to mark the 150th anniversary of the world's first Underground service, it was decided to revive the long moribund Wimbledon Tennis poster and this elegant design was chosen and was posted briefly on some District line stations during the 2013 Championships.
This poster was designed by Jon Hunter with the tennis balls representing the Underground line colours.
